It’s 1-8-2024, and we thought it would be a great time to properly re-introduce OBSCUR8. If you’ve ever wondered who or what is behind the name, please continue reading. OBSCUR8 started out as a project to house multiple creative hats at the time, with the main focus on creating new and unheard-of audio SAMPLES and SOUNDS. The cover art, marketing ideas, rollouts, and failures were and are also part of the project development.
With almost 20 years of music producer and artist experiences under my belt at the time, 2018 marked a turning point in creative direction and thus gave birth to “OBSCUR8.” I asked the questions we all ask ourselves at some point: “What am I doing?”, “Why am I doing this thing that isn’t financially rewarding me?”, "What am I doing wrong?", "Why haven’t I MADE IT YET?!", etc.
The self-reflection led me to creating a project that could represent the things that continue to drive and motivate me and also the many creators I will collaborate with in the process. Sound design and music are at the foundation. Art, Storytelling, and personal culture are embedded with that foundation at the root.
The name “OBSCUR8” itself represents:
- Taking pride in creating obscure (unknown/mysterious), rare, and non-conforming art.
- Simplicity and Efficiency: You can create an enormous sound or piece of art with only 8 tracks or layers.
- The number “8” represents infinite possibilities and abundance.
At this point you may be saying, “This is some BS! You just make sample packs!”. But look close, and you’ll see that many times there’s mainly one person creating the sounds, art, marketing, videos, etc. That takes more than only knowing how to create samples and music.
If you’re still reading this then you are most likely that type of multifaceted creative person. If you continue to experience this journey with us, you may end up building your own worlds or enhancing the ones you are already in.
